History

DLA Phillips Fox can trace its history back over 125 years to two law firms: Phillips Shayle George (Wellington) and Nicholson Gribbin (Auckland).

In 1989 these two firms merged to become Phillips Nicholson, and then merged with DLA Phillips Fox in Australia in 1999 to create New Zealand’s first fully financially integrated trans-Tasman law firm.

The Australian offices of DLA Phillips Fox merged with and became fully financially integrated with DLA Piper on 1 May 2011. DLA Phillips Fox continues in New Zealand as an alliance or group firm of DLA Piper.

The focus of  DLA Phillips Fox is on operational alignment with DLA Piper.
